Cranes and Equipment

The South Carolina State Ports Authority has invested heavily in new cranes and equipment in recent years.  The Port of Charleston is regarded by many in the maritime industry to be among the most productive ports in the world. Having the right equipment for the job is a big part of productivity. 

Dockside Container Cranes

The Port of Charleston offers access to 21 container cranes, 16 of which are at least post-Panamax in size. The port's fleet presently includes:

On-Terminal Container RTG Crane Handling

On-terminal equipment has been a major priority for the Port of Charleston the last few years. There has been a dramatic growth in the port's investment in more and faster equipment to keep ahead of demand.


Presently the Port of Charleston's fleet consists of 43 rubber tire gantry cranes (RTGs), 44 toplifters, 17 emptyhandlers and 21 container cranes.
